Oh, by the way, I’m in Hawaii
Everything happened so fast! I knew I was going to Hawaii to work on a movie set–we were supposed to fly over on Friday and start shooting on Sunday.
Well, on Monday I was crating up equipment to be shipped over and as the shipping truck was leaving, Dominic says, “Oh, by the way, we’ve got to be in L.A. tomorrow, then, from there, off to Hawaii early Wednesday morning…”
Yipes! I was NOT EVEN ready to go. I still had so much to do before I left (like write a couple of blog posts–but, as you can see, that didn’t happen).
Our plane landed yesterday afternoon and on the way to the hotel the production company called and wanted an immediate meeting. After that, dinner. Then, total travel wipeout.
So, here I am on Thanksgiving morning finally able to check out the beach. This may be one of the few days I have to myself, so I’ll see what kind of mischief a rooster can get into on a Thanksgiving in Hawaii…
Sorry for the sucky blog post but, SURFS UP!
p.s. As usual, I don’t know much about the movie we’re working on, only that it involves hot air balloons. I’ve seen the storyboard for the scene we’re shooting, but even that doesn’t reveal much. As we get to work I’m sure something interesting will happen that I can report in future posts.
Aloha!

Thanks, Wayne! You have a great Thanksgiving too! I’m surrounded by beautiful scenery and gorgeous women, but I’ll try to have a good time anyway…

You poor thing. What a horrible location to work in. Next time try to get them to shoot in Maine in November. It’s just lovely here. Bare gray trees, lots of fog, and dark at 4 pm. Paradise!

Don’t forget, you’re there to work! Soon enough you’ll be sweating through 16-hour work days, starting in the dark and finishing work long after the beach babes have gone home.
Isn’t the movie business fun!

…and, of course, by “work” you mean “wait around for the AD’s to discuss what they’re planning for TOMORROW.”
If you’ve worked on more than one movie (and I think you have) you know EXACTLY what I’m talking about. Haha!

Hey, I am WORKING you know…
It just so happens we got rained-out today which (in the movie business) means sit under the tent and wait for several hours even though there is NO WAY we would EVER continue shooting today under ANY circumstances.

Damn, Hawaii sounds pretty good right now. It’s gray and dreary here in central CA. Have fun, and don’t get in any balloon crashes.

I’ll be heading back to Southern California next week–see to it that the weather is nicer by then. LOL
On Friday, the production company didn’t get the shots they wanted because it was WAY to windy to fly. Darn right SCARY!
There is a video floating around of the wind-enhanced balloon flight–hopefully, I’ll get a copy and post it on the blog. It is quite exciting.

Right now, it’s overcast here and it probably won’t clear up for another 20 minutes–MUCH worse than YOUR situation! LOL
Actually, I really do feel for you…sort of.
Stay warm!

We finished our hot air balloon scenes yesterday and now have the ENTIRE rest of our stay to ourselves! 6 whole days to try and kill myself on a surfboard!

Just this weekend I was telling my dad– who’s superpower is committing to memory every commercial he’s ever seen– about your hot air balloon nudist car commercial. Now I think he’s in awe. He quoted some line from the commercial instantly and looked all impressed.
Anyway, happy Hawaii and say hi to Magnum PI for me.

Did you tell your dad I had the most important part in that commercial–the guy hiding behind the balloon basket completely out of camera view?
Magnum PI has ALREADY told me to say hi to YOU! So, there!

Yes, he was impressed by that, anyway. I’m sure he’ll be re-recounting the story to ME when I next see him at Christmas. You’ll be his hero by then.

Haha! Well, yes, I am lost. I will write up something soon–right now, I’m so busy I just don’t have time!
The big waves are breaking at the North Shore (Banzai Pipeline) so, I’m heading out there today. I promise I’ll take lots of pictures.

Did I happen to mention I dabbled in the acting business for a week or two? Just saying in case you need some extras in Hawaii or anywhere else cool. I’ll sleep on the beach and drink my meals.

I’ll keep that in mind. However, those kinds of decisions are never made by me. LOL
I was actually on camera a couple of times in the past. For some reason, I wasn’t bombarded with any future movie offers.

Glad to see you having a good time in Hawaii. Is it possible to have a bad time there?

Watch out for that Banzai Pipeline! It may look like a jolly wheeze to play with but next thing you know you’ll be face down in 30 feet of water with a beautiful coral pattern carved into your face. Been there, bled a lot.

Pyscho – I’m 46 and grew up in Weyauwega. A little bigger than Almond at 1500…
We always heard as kids that Robert Bloch spent time on the water tower at the county hospital while visiting his wife. He could see the back of the Lakeside Hotel which was across the lake from there. Just wondering if you can lend any credence to that thought. Very hard to get anyone to believe it.

Hi Brad,
Robert Bloch lived in a house in Weyauwega and wrote Psycho while he lived there. The Lakeside Inn (as it was called) was the inspiration for the Bates Motel.
I don’t recall reading about the hospital across the lake, but it could be true. If you can get your hands on a copy of Once Around the Bloch (his autobiography) there is a lot of information about his time in Weyauwega.
