Sunday Scribblings: They Came Looking for Passion, but Found Inane Humor

Sunday Scribblings is a blog with the purpose of inspiring and motivating writers. They do this by posting a weekly “prompt” which serious writers can use as a topic to craft deep-thinking and skillfully written blog posts. The links to these posts are then added to the site’s link list as inspiration to other writers. This week, the prompt is “Passion.”
Last night, yours truly, having never been there before, and somehow not realizing the nature of the blog, added DeadRooster.com to the list. Soon after, Dead Rooter became flooded with people of a serious writer-like mentality expecting to see inspirational musings about passion. Instead, and without warning, they were treated to my last blog post entitled, The Scientific Murder of an Innocent Gummi Bear.
To these people I sincerely apologize and I swear it was an honest mistake. I guess I should be embarrassed, but to be honest, I find the whole thing way too funny.

That’s quite funny. Really though, I thought the point of adding yourself to the list was to show participation in the particular meme? Or was that supposed to be for other like sites? Hmm.

Julie,
I believe you are correct in that it’s to show participation in the particular meme; however, there was no participation on my part–just a link to The Scientific Murder of a Gummi Bear. LOL

Great post! You mentioned about there being serious writers on SS, and you are too right. I read all of the entries each week ad so many writers there take themselves fartoo seriously for their own good. In about a quarter of cases I can honestly say that i have no idea what they are going on about. So arriving here was a breath of fresh air.

I’ve read through all of your posts (okay, except for the first one) and you’ve been putting out a lot of good, funny posts.
The “better to be a dead rooster than a running hen” quote is a Mexican saying that basically extols the virtues of being male rather than female; I’ve yet to find a good link that directly references it, and even if I could I wouldn’t know I did, seeing as I can’t read Spanish.
Keep up the good stuff. Oh, and “I saw three Spocks once” is a lot funnier in that “I’m trolling your discussion but you’re still going to flame me anyways” way.

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for complements! I’m not sure I agree with your interpretation of the Dead Rooster quote–I remember the context being “better to make a courageous stand in the face of danger than to run away and never know victory.” But, who knows. I will uncover the reference again–it’s probably in a book I’ve got buried in a box (I’ve got THOUSANDS of books in boxes).

I hope I’m not one of the ones Keith thinks takes him/herself “far too seriously.” But seriously, it sounds like being funny is your passion. Nothing wrong with that. I hope you decide to come up with something for next Sunday, serious or otherwise.
By the way, I too have thousands of books in boxes, sigh.

You are an evil genius! I am a bit jealous I hadn’t thought of doing this first, though.

Sarala,
I’m actually tempted to try it now that I’ve gotten so much positive feedback, but if I do, we might ALL be sorry.

Now that is funny! The image in my mind is priceless. If I was laughing before…I thought I was gonna choke when I read the title of your post “The Scientific Murder of an Innocent Gummi Bear”. I love your humor. This is my first time here and I guarantee you it won’t be the last.
