Dead Rooster Rises from the Grave
As many of you have noticed, I’ve been pretty scarce around here for the past two weeks. February is the busiest time of year here at the Dead Rooster Mansion, and I was just so overwhelmed I couldn’t keep up with the blog.
The main reason for my absence, as I’m sure you have figured out by now, is that February contains Valentine’s Day, and love is what Dead Rooster is all about.
I always try to answer each-and-every one of the over-eight-million valentine cards I receive each year, but as you can imagine, it is just impossible to do by myself; so this year, I enlisted the help of several out-of-work female supermodels, which, surprisingly, turned out to be more of a distraction than the valentine cards.
Seriously, though, February is just insane in the hot air balloon industry. On Saturday alone we flew 26 people! Lot’s of proposal flights including one at night which turns out to not be such a great idea because the girl couldn’t see the proposal sign in the dark – we had to fly the balloon super close to the ground and hit the burner to light it up!
Another distraction for me these past couple of weeks is that I’ve discovered Twitter. Before I go any further, I’ve got to send out some thanks to my friend, Bradley at Outside My Brain for getting me started and sending me a few followers. Thanks buddy! I really appreciate it!
I’m addicted to Twitter. There’s just no other way to say it. I can’t stop playing around with it. I’ve been pretty exhausted with all the hot air balloon flights recently, but I always seem to have enough energy to bang out simple comments (Twitter only allows 140-characters per comment, so you CAN’T get carried away with any single comment).
One interesting gadget I found for use with Twitter is TweetDeck. It filters your follower’s tweets into several columns. Mine has three columns: One displays ALL tweets; one shows only tweets directed at me specifically (such as replies); and one column shows only privately sent Direct Messages.
TweetDeck also lets you shorten urls right in the application eliminating the need to load up TinyUrl, etc. when you want to add one to your tweets. It’s a real timesaver.
Check out TweetDeck here.
If any of you are brave enough, and can stomach my periodic flirting with some of the hotties on there, I’d be honored if you’d follow me on twitter (I always follow back). Aside from the occasional flirt, I try to tweet interesting stuff on there once in a while as well.
Well, that’s about the gist of it for now; I’ll try and stay more active on here in the future. Thanks, dear reader, for not deserting me during my momentary laps of blogging!

Only Three Columns ?!
I’ve got SIX yo !
One column is for friends whose updates I’d hate to miss. (You are not in it)
Another one is for a Bra and her friends who love to chatter away (You are not in it)
And one column is dedicate to tweets that I send. (You, of course are not in it either). Yea I am weird that way.
Glad you are enjoying Twitter. Welcome !

I am not in your important update list? Are you CRAZY?
Having just discovered the “group” feature, I have just upgraded to FOUR columns!

Thanks for following.
TweetDeck is REALLY cool. You can set up a column with only your favorite twitterites and filter out all the marketers.

Sounds like you’re single-handedly keeping the economy going over there. I’m glad to help feed your new Twitter addiction and honored to have been your first follower. Have you discovered Mr. Tweet? It’s a great application. http://mrtweet.net/

I’m checking out Mr. Tweet now. It looks like it will help get followers but I’m not advanced enough to know what it would really do for me. I’ll probably come back to it after a few more days of learning twitter.
I am honored to have you as my first follower!

Glad to see you back! I have no idea how Twitter works, and I think I’m going to keep it that way. I have too much of an addictive personality. I know I’d get hooked. They haven’t developed a treatment program for Twitter addicts yet, have they?

I can’t think of anything better than to follow you on Twitter. Alright, maybe I can, but it will be fun to read what you tweet.
Oh! I started a contest on my site where I’m giving 10k in EC credits to one person. Details are on my site if you’d like to enter.

Definitely nice to have you around on Twitter! Say, with all of those hot air balloon proposals, have you ever done any hot air balloon “it’s over” events? Because the full-circleness of it all would be, well, funny.

There was one “I want a divorce” flight, but unfortunately, I wasn’t involved with that one. I thought it was funny too!

TweetDeck is awesome! I have a whole group just for cats. Now you need to sign up for “Qwitter” so you can see when someone stops following you and after which Tweet. Or maybe not. Sometimes, it makes me sad.

I use SocialToo and they send a daily update as to who followed and who stopped following. It automatically follows those that follow and automatically dump the quitters. Pretty cool.

Welsome back Rooster!
Be careful with Twitter. Actor Stephen Fry is so addicted to Twitter I am fearful for his career…

William,
I appreciate the mention in your post. I enjoy seeing people get started on Twitter. Yes, it is quite amazing how addicting it is. I think it is the same psychology as mini-bite cookies. I think we end up eating more of them because they are smaller. Go figure.
Thanks,
Bradley

Thanks again for all your help, Bradley. If tweets were mini-bite cookies, I’d have already went-off like the restaurant guy in “Meaning of Life”

But I do like the program TweetDeck. It is very easy to use and quite affordable.

Hi William, just found your blog the other day (not sure how). Great stuff here, I started using the TweetDeck and what a difference it makes organizing tweets. Thanks for the recommendation.

Interesting. I didn’t do ANYTHING. It must be the newest WP upgrade; either that, or it’s the latest All-in-one SEO plugin upgrade.
Thanks for your stumbles and other help John — I really appreciate it.
