Pull My Finger

We’ve all seen photos of the beautiful ceiling panels of the Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo who began the work in 1508 and finished in 1512. The most famous of the series is The Creation of Adam in which God, floating around in a parachute populated by a small entourage, says to Adam, “Hey, Adam, com’ere a minute. Pull my finger…”
It has been argued for centuries as to whether or not Adam ever actually pulls the finger, but if he did, I’m sure there would have been quite a storm.
Another artist creating quite a storm these days is Lewis Lavoie. He creates enormous murals which are actually several—and sometimes even hundreds—of individual paintings rearranged to form the illusion of a larger image.
His United Nations mural mosaic ADAM: One Blood Many Nations is definitely one of the coolest pieces of art I’ve seen in a while. Twenty separate images combine to form the illusion of the face of Adam as depicted in Michelangelo’s great work (If you can’t quite make-out the face of Adam in the image below, try stepping back from your monitor a bit).

Pretty neat, huh? More photos of this and other mosaics can be viewed at the artist’s web site.
