A Relaxing Weekend at the Dead Rooster Mansion

As you can imagine, yesterday’s CNN exposure sparked quite a bit of attention: telephone lines were jammed; reporters with microphones were clawing at my door; a string of local news vans were scattered along the front yard; helicopters were circling; and there were at least TWICE as many supermodels hanging around here than usual. The whole thing wore me out, so I think I’m just going to take it easy this weekend.

I’m going to stay away from the computer as much as possible; yesterday, with all the hoopla, I wound-up staring at the computer screen for so long that my eyes practically liquefied in their sockets and ran down my cheeks. I need a little break.

Of course I’ll have to check-in every so often to BlogCatalog Message Board and my blog’s comments sections to see if there’s any action, but for the most part, I’m cruzin’.

Maybe I’ll try to finish reading Eric Knapp’s novel, Cluck: Murder Most Fowl so I can do a review next week as promised in an earlier post. I’ll spin-up some margaritas in the blender, grab a recliner out on the back patio and read.

Zombie Chickens and margaritas—it’s a winning combination!

Dead Rooster Featured on CNN

15 May, 2008 (09:32) | Human Rights, Social Networks, TV | By: William McCamment

Today on CNN’s American Morning, Veronica De La Cruz did a segment featuring Bloggers Unite for Human Rights, a joint-effort between BlogCatalog, Bloggers Unite and Amnesty International which encourages bloggers all over the world to observe May 15th as a day to blog about human rights. Dead Rooster participated in this effort and was featured, along with PointlessBanter.net, in the CNN story.

A special thanks to Richard Becker of Copywrite, Ink for bringing things together on BlogCatalog.

Note: if for some reason you can’t view the following video, you can also view the story at CNN’s video page. Thanks to Amy Oops! for alerting me to the CNN link.

Bloggers Unite For Human Rights: Myanmar

14 May, 2008 (20:56) | Human Rights, blogging | By: William McCamment

Bloggers UniteToday is May 15th which is Bloggers Unite for Human Rights day. The trouble I’ve got since I threw my blog into the ring is that I write a humor blog, and how is one supposed to write about human rights violations in a funny way?

After racking my brain for several hours, I’ve surrendered to the fact that there is just nothing funny about human rights violations. I’m going to leave the Zombie Chickens and Hot Blondes at home and, for today at least, team-up with Amnesty International.

Right now there is a massive humanitarian effort underway to help the victims devastated by Cyclone Narigis in Myanmar. The trouble is the Myanmar government has refused to grant full access to the international community which is ready to deliver aid and life-saving supplies to its citizens. Over one million people have been displaced and time is running out. Unfortunately, the Myanmar government cannot be trusted to deliver these supplies itself because it is discriminatory in its distribution and some of the most desperate victims in the hardest hit areas will go unaided.

You can help convince the Myanmar government to ease Visa restrictions and customs procedures which would allow humanitarian relief workers quicker access to victims by logging on to Amnesty International’s web site and filling out their email form. An email will be sent in your name to Ambassador Linn Myaing demanding that they cooperate with international relief efforts.

The whole thing takes less than five minutes and you can really make a difference in the lives of over one million innocent victims. It won’t cost you a dime:

Ensure humanitarian aid to Cyclone Narigis victims

Thank you!

UPDATE 5/19/2008: I am happy to report that the Myanmar government has agreed to let relief workers into remote areas. Perhaps the Bloggers Unite for Human Rights effort made a difference! I would also like to extend a special thank you to all Dead Rooster readers and other bloggers that participated in this worthy cause. Thank you!
